Summer time means vacations for many of us. Whether you’re heading out on a road trip, or boarding a plane, our orthodontist at Ortho Inc. wants to remind you that our treatment to deliver a healthy, beautiful, long-lasting smile never takes time off. That means doing some extra planning to ensure that our work together stays on schedule. We’re sure you’d like to keep your treatment time to a minimum, and taking some simple steps will go a long way toward achieving our goal.
First of all, make sure your travel plans don’t interfere with the prearranged time frame for your followup visits to our orthodontist. These visits allow us an opportunity to make any adjustments in our treatment. The amount of time differs in each case, but for most braces and aligner wearers it can be anywhere from four to six weeks. Waiting too long between appointments can mean our treatment is not functioning properly, which could be an unnecessary setback. Consider coming in for a visit before you leave to ensure a smooth trip.
Next up: Make a list of the essential items you’ll need to pack, including:
- Travel-size toothbrush
- Travel-size toothpaste with fluoride
- Dental floss
- Proximal (interdental) brush to remove plaque and debris between teeth
- Small water bottle for mouth rinsing
- For braces wearers, extra rubber bands and orthodontic wax in case of protruding wires.
- Pocket-size mirror to check for food particles or other issues
- Pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen
Our orthodontist at Ortho Inc. wishes all our patients a relaxing summer vacation, but remind you to stick to your oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing at least twice a day, and to remain mindful of the sticky, crunchy, hard foods that can potentially set our treatment back.
